Like with other vices -- alcohol, drugs, cigarettes -- talk to your kids about the dangers of gambling and addiction. Talk to your friends if you suspect they may be developing a problem. That's one way to deal with the situation instead of depending on the government to act. Just like with alcohol, there are healthy ways to consume gambling as a form of entertainment.

Aside: I find the 50/50 tickets to be way more insidious. They promote extravagant jackpots which appeal to people's greed. They take a 50% (!) cut, and hide behind a curtain of 'charity', but who knows what 'charity' is actually benefitting the other way.
Well single betting itself is legal country wide. Ontario has just been the first province to allow private operators to enter the space. Other provinces could dish out licenses to Draftkings, Fanduel, etc today....they're just slow. Most provinces have an archaic provincial lottery right now. Soon you'll see arenas in this country with betting kiosks. Great Canadian Gaming is making a big push right now in hotels/racetracks (River Rock, Woodbine) to have retail sportsbooks set up by NFL.
