I've got
$52.26 million tied up in salary committed next year giving me $6.8 million to re-sign Karlsson, Pettersson, Zaitsev, Namestnikov, Janmark, and Niku.
Obviously that's not enough – if it were, I wouldn't be making any more trades. There's also the goaltending question: Francouz is a UFA. Then there's Justin Schultz and Brad Hunt.
I constantly update my estimated cap situation in a spreadsheet. Here are my estimated RFA contracts based on last year's grid amounts.
William Karlsson (proj. 73 OV): 1 year x $5 million
Marcus Pettersson (proj. 69 OV): 1 year x $3.5 million
Nikita Zaitsev (proj. 67 OV): 3 years x $3 million
Vlad Namestnikov (proj. 69 OV): 1 year x $2.5 million
Mattias Janmark (proj. 66 OV): 1 year x $0.75 million
Sami Niku (proj. 66 OV) 1 year x $1.25 million
Total: $16 million
So I estimate I'm roughly
$9.2 million over the cap. A decent amount, but not insurmountable. And this is with me having satisfied the vast majority of my conditions, already having cleared out nearly all of my awful contracts, and adding numerous young, dynamic players.
