I can't even wrap my heads around life for returning soldiers post WW1 & WW2, hell chuck in Korea and up to the 90's.
There was no really acknowledgment of the unseen mental trauma suffered by soldiers. Even in the early 90's it was ignored by the forces. Our mental health debrief was done in country and got interrupted 10 mins into the session by artillery. The "team" sat with us in the bunker looking terrified, signed off on all of us without finishing the session or providing any of the resource material to us.
####ing appalling. I remember reading my tour had the highest incidence of post tour suicide of any tour in the Balkans (UN or NATO).
