Tkachuk would probably be part of any deal, yes. Gaudreau or Monahan for one and a half years of Karlsson and early negotiating rights is a total non-starter, particularly for a team that may or may not make the playoffs this season.
I disagree that Hamilton isn't the top Dman on the Flames, for me he definitely is and is simply being underused. But I gather that he's still not there for some people. Regardless, he's clearly the most valuable asset they have in that position given his age and contract. I wouldn't trade him though.
