That pair got overrated pretty badly because of team success. They were at about 36% Corsi together and got outscored 13-6 while they were on the ice. They were passable enough defensively, but we generated nothing offensively with them on the ice. The real hero that year (on D) was, shockingly enough, Dennis Wideman who was over a point per game after Gio got hurt. Russell-Wideman weren't good in their own zone but they (Wideman especially) managed to outscore their defensive shortcomings.
