Here's the story from Philly:

We wanna sign Backstrom (7.5m) and Ekhom (8.5m) to their UFA grids, In order to do that, we need $16m. We currently have 8.4. So, we're down 7.6 plus the 1.4 I'd need for Svech, so lets call it an even 9m.

I'd rather not lose either of them for nothing, which is why I'd be open to moving a young, highly rated D like Morrissey(74) or Dumba (73)

So, if you're a cap rich team and want to avoid the stress/risk of UFA bidding, come get stud who's 10ish years younger instead. You then have a cost controlled asset for the remainder of their RFA years instead of anticipating the inevitable decline of your over-priced, over-aged UFA

Here's what we'd need:
You take our early 20's defensive stud.
We get around $3m in cap as well as a decent pick and/or prospect so I don't feel so violated after you rob us. Otherwise we'll just let Ekholm walk and keep our young D guys.

We'd do the same with Hayes or another forward too.
