I think the multiple timelines storytelling is working well and I think its getting to the point where they have set up these characters and are going to start putting in the twists. Already most of the main characters seem complex and not straight good or bad. There is a lot of nuance and justification behind their motivations.

Usually I'm indifferent to individual characters' dramas (who's sleeping with who, bad blood, family, etc), but I find with True Detective it is actually a substantial part of the intrigue and story.
I'm just so happy that the True Detective we fell in love with is back.
