Having been through a couple of these things myself, I can only agree with Cali and his recommendations.
The only thing I would add is that you simply cannot have enough water in reserve. We lost power and water for 4 or 5 days the first time and water was by far the one thing that matters most. Fill bathtubs with it, get as much bottled stuff as you can, and then get some more.
