The other factor with a veteran like Hughes is that it's a long season. I certainly don't wish any ill will to the guy - he's one of my all-time faves - but IMO it will be another story if he's playing every game after Labour Day (let alone averaging >1 sacks per game in that stretch).
He is pretty much a machine and a physical specimen, so I'm by no means counting Hughes out. Still, he's gotten banged up the past couple of seasons, which is now almost to be expected as a 30+ year-old DE. It's a risk that comes with signing dominant veterans to huge contracts... an injury is devastating as the depth behind and around them sometimes lacks.
