I wouldn't bother with 1500w electric heaters, the cost to run them is too great for what they would put out. Depending how and when your garage was wired, if you have a 1500w heater sharing the same circuit as the opener you will more than likely get nuisance breaker tripping by overloading it.
As much as I hate to say it, pony up and get a gas line out there.
