NCAA weekend recap:

DENVER -- The Pioneers took a trip to North Dakota to take on the Fighting Hawks. They split the weekend series, losing 4-1 on Friday and winning 2-1 in OT on Saturday. Pettersen had an assist on the OT winner, so it's a good thing he didn't leave for Germany yet.

Pettersen leads the team with 10 assists and is tied for the team lead in points, with 15. 15 points in 14 games also keeps him above the 1.0 P/G mark. Pettersen is now headed across the Atlantic to join Team Norway in the IIHF U20 Division 1A tournament, which starts today in Germany. Norway's first game against Belarus starts today at noon Calgary time. I don't know if Pettersen would have been able to get from North Dakota to Germany in time for the game.

ARIZONA STATE -- The Sun Devils travelled to New Jersey to take on Princeton. They took both games against the Ivy Leaguers, shutting out the Tigers 4-0 on Friday and winning 3-2 in OT on Saturday. Koumontzis had assists on ASU's first two goals on Saturday. He now has 10 points in 18 games.

This weekend marked the halfway point of ASU's schedule, and the two wins moved them to a 12-6-0 record. This is already the best season in the history of the ASU hockey program. If they can keep playing this way, there's a very good chance they'll make the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever (they are currently 10th in the Pairwise ranking).

MICHIGAN STATE -- The Spartans travelled to Wisconsin to take on the Badgers. They dropped both games, losing 5-3 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday. Mattson finally got back into the lineup on Saturday. He is still looking for his first college point (he has played in 6 of MSU's 16 games so far).

Things slow down now for the holiday season. Denver doesn't play again until after Christmas. MSU has an exhibition game next weekend against the US Under-18 team and then will be done until after Christmas. ASU has one more weekend series before their Christmas break, returning home to take on Colorado College (these will be their first home games in over a month).
