I have a very tight connection in Frankfurt in a couple of weeks and find it best just not to stress about these things. You do the best you can and if you miss, deal with it then. It's only an inconvenience when all is said and done..
Icelandair really treated you like crap through this.

I probably have nothing to worry about because I fully expect to show up at the Halifax airport and be told that I'm not scheduled to be on the Porter flight that Icelandair put me on to Montreal because they've told me about 5 times now that it's cancelled even though it wasn't. But the last time I called I was told that the Porter flight is fine and it was the Montreal to Iceland flight that was cancelled but then it was uncancelled again.
I'm generally a very patient, calm person but have absolutely lost my cool several times over the phone with Icelandair the last few weeks.
