It's only happened 55 times in NHL history that a player has recorded 82 or more assists in a season. Last time? 2009-2010, Henrik Sedin had 83 assists.
Other recent seasons:
2006-2007: Sidney Crosby, 84
2006-2007: Joe Thornton, 92
2005-2006: Joe Thornton, 96
All other instances are from before the 99-00 season. 82 assists would tie the Flames franchise record, set by Kent Nilsson in 80-81.
