I don't really get the logic of 'Ukraine attacking Russian refineries makes the gas price in the west go up' argument. Seems like misinformation to me... Maybe a certain nation can spook the markets enough so they can sell a barrel of oil for $5 more.

The media does not help by reporting XXX thousand barrels or production is lost even though that production is Russia upgrading its own oil into useful products like petrol, diesel, jet fuel, etc. What is really happening is Ukraine is forcing Russia to limit its 'liquid bribes' to certain nations and forcing Russia to sell oil to them at $70 a barrel instead of selling the same upgraded barrel of gasoline at $120+ plus a barrel. Russia has also issued a 6 month fuel export ban to help this out and if they get desperate they might decide to loot fuel from their lesser regions like they already did with the fighting aged men.

Ukraine is point on with this strategy the Russians will not stop until they realize Putin is screwing most of them over horribly. Russia is forced to sell oil instead of upgraded fuel at a discount and the price of oil and therefore gasoline, diesel, and other useful dinosaur squeezings will go down for most of the world.
