Actually I do appreciate that rebuttal on Bourque. I went to investigate further.

I think what irked me about him was as soon as he signed his massive extension in 2010, he almost instantly became a softer player. +30 on his career when he signed for 6 years 33 million, and he would never be a plus player again, -81 the rest of the way. Just like Glencross, when you give your hardnosed players that kind of paycheque and security, they think they’re offensive superstars and stop doing the things that made them successful.

I forgot Sutter amended his error so quickly with that trade. Now I recall being at the Saddledome and reading about the Cammalleri deal mid period on Calgarypuck and yelling “we traded Bork!” excitedly to my section.

But alas. Enough tangent. Bourque was a beauty that game.
