Varlamov just makes the most sense to me. Colorado brought in Grubauer and signed him to a big contract, and they brought in a high-profile European free agent in Pavel Francouz likely with the expectation of him being the backup. Varlamov is on an expiring contract and has an iffy injury history, but he pretty consistently puts up good-to-great numbers and is a Vezina finalist who's only 30. I could see a Smith/Varlamov tandem doing really well.
