I like the Ring of Honour idea the Canucks are using. Would make sense to delay until a new arena though.

Everyone who gets a display gets a night of recognition with a little ceremony, but it's not as marquee as a jersey retirement. Seems like a good compromise that doesn't have the weird "it's a banner, but not an official retirement banner, just a recognition banner" vibe.

If the Flames had something called like "The Eternal Flames" as a display in the new rink which is more of a permanent museum style display, migrate former Forever a Flame nominees over to that, and then have that as a clear differentiation between retired jerseys and standout Flames who fall short of a jersey retirement, that would seem like the best path forward. You could have larger/grander displays for the retired jersey inductees.

I don't think 34 should get a jersey retirement. Iginla should be the last for another 10-15 years at least.
