fair enough although I don't think players all of a sudden stopped getting good at hockey during Iggy's prime- there were good players in Iggy's time too- we can argue that in 01-02 that was a year where for whatever reason there weren't as many elites on the top of their game but that was only one of 3 times he was tabbed as one of the league's top 3 players...Shanahan was consistently behind too many of his peers- anyways in the end I think you could argue maybe that Shahanan's career had more depth to it and Iggy had more peak but at best they are darn close

Iggy played at the same time as Jagr, Forsberg, Sakic, shooting on guys named Roy, Brodeur and Hayek, and then in the second half of his career, with, Sid, Ovie, Malkin.
