Depends whether or not there is a conduit installed. Conduit = much easier.

Otherwise, if the home is like mine with no conduit, I paid an electrician for his time to fish cables for like 5-6 hours for 4 cables (3x 2nd floor to basement, 1x main floor to basement) plus terminating them. I'm sure you can do this yourself for way cheaper than hiring a guy if you want. Or do both, and hire a guy to do the main lines and the optional/non-urgent lines you can buy a kit and figure it out over a weekend or something.

Without conduits, some homes are easy to fish cables, others are straight up nightmares. You don't know until you start fishing the cable.
