Paddock is interesting that he is going to the AHL on a tryout as opposed to playing in the WHL as a 20-year-old since his rights don't belong to the Flames organization as a draft pick.
The Heat also signed Giorgio Estephan who was a teammate of Gawdin on Swift Current when they won the WHL Championship. Colton Beck was signed to a PTO.

Shortridge is hurt, which is likely why Sparks was signed to an AHL deal - effectively a placeholder until Parsons is able to go.
Paddock is still a WHL option, but the team that holds his rights (Prince Albert) has no timeline for a return given the B.C. Division's lag behind the other WHL outfits in getting going. If nothing else, this gives him practice reps and gives the Flames an extra look at him.
