Michael Backlund is a Shark. I think for the first time ever.

Backlund is a guy we have been interested in acquiring for a long time and today we finally made a deal to bring him to San Jose. After putting Zach Smith on the block earlier in the day, the Jackets GM came calling and it didn’t take long for a deal to be made.

To San Jose:
Michael Backlund
Jacob Josefson
2mill

To Columbus:
Zach Smith
Jake McCabe
2019 3rd

McCabe was a guy we really were not interested in trading and he was never on our block. But we needed to add him to get the deal done and we think it’s worth it.

Backlund does come with an $8mill salary so we find ourselves in an awkward spot where we will need to find a way to make it work. We expect to trade Josefson to free up that $1mill and hope we can find a way to make it work. We hope a Crosby-Backlund 1-2 punch will be good for us.

Backlund had a bit of a down year but we still think he is a quality player and are happy to have him. Thanks Russell for the trade..
