Just posted this on all my socials:

“I don’t usually have deep feelings about celebrity deaths, but this one is different. I’m gutted. I can’t think of many musicians who’ve had a bigger impact on my life and my own writing than Ric Ocasek and The Cars. Ric had such quirky swag (if that’s possible) and his songs were so insanely simple and brilliant all at once. His combination of New Wave, Pop, etc. was one-of-a-kind. Not to mention his eclectic and fantastic work as a producer. I am so grateful for all the musical happiness this man has contributed to my life. He was a true genius. Like every other day of my life, I’ll be bumping your tunes, grateful for the brilliance you contributed to rock & roll. Thanks for everything. RIP.”

My new band betaboys is currently recording our debut EP. It’s very deliberately influenced by The Cars sound and aesthetic. I am excited to get it out there as a tribute to Ric.
