Another problem is that Vegas had a marginally better cap scenario prior to the deal being made. Had Vegas kept Neal instead of him being signed by Calgary this may have ended up differently.

They added a 7.5 million dollar player at the deadline without sending out any salary and finished the season with twice as much cap space as the Flames.
Fortunately for Vegas, they didn't keep Neal.
