Most veterans with wives and/or families at home would probably rather take the few days off to do normy stuff that they usually don't get to do for most of the year. I mean, the NHL wouldn't have to penalize players that choose not to go if it was universally desirable. Younger players looking for attention probably love the dick waving of the ASG.
Personally, I don't think I have watched a full All-Star game in 20 years.

They had an interview with Giordano on the Fan960. He sounded relieved he wasn't going and said it's not a big deal.
