Default Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes

My son’s 4 year old stepson was diagnosed about a week ago with Type 1 Diabetes. He had been having some concerning symptoms so his mom got the doctor to take a urine sample and the next day the hospital called them to bring him in immediately. He spent 4 days in hospital. All the family and extended family have had to take education classes to begin to learn how to care for him. He will need insulin four times a day and blood sugar checks 4 to 6 times a day, including each night at 2:00 am.

He hates the pokes and the shots it still involves lots of tears and struggles, his Mom has already noticed a personality change, he’s not the same bright happy boy. He had also just started school. On top of this they have a 12 week old baby so they are very busy.

The nurses on the unit are great. They will be his nurses until he’s 18 but it is always helpful to speak to other affected families.

Any CP families going through this with their children?
