Balvenie isn't peaty at all, but like people have said, the Caribbean cask gives it a sweet, rummy feel.

I always suggest a Glenmoragnie Nectar D'or as a first good single malt to try and spend money on, it's balanced. KWM has a 4 bottle gift pack of different Glenmoragnie for like 50 bucks (the bottles are like 3 pours each, so bigger than airline size) and it's a great option to try out. The Lasanta in there is very sherried and sweet as hell.

Oh, and what am I drinking right now? I picked up a 15 yr peated, single cask, rum finished Glen Scotia over in the UK and if they ever get it over here, I'd knock over a grandmother to get to it...damn.
