To add to my earlier comment, the rum cask Balvenie mentioned earlier doesn't really feel like a true Scotch. The flavour of rum is strong enough that it's obvious that it has flavors of a completely different spirit. It is tasty and unique though. A fun bottle to enjoy as a change of pace. I'm just mentioning this because a few friends of mine tried it and agreed it was interesting, but absolutely not something that fulfills a Scotch craving for them.
On a relatively random note, I don't get the obsession with aging in oak (American or otherwise). One reviewer I stumbled upon seemed to put it best, "There is a flavour, chemically but organic, reminiscent of glue or something sappy." Blegh.
