It’s legitimate to protest symbols of PRC power(such as an embassy or consulate), that is seperate from attacking Chinese citizens of Canada. The same way we can criticize Russia but not spread hate upon our fellow Russians residing in Canada.
To me this is even more clear because many ethnic Chinese in Canada have never even set foot in the PRC. As well as native Canadians born here, most 1st generation immigrants are from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other Chinese minorities from places like Malaysia.
