I also heard the segment, and I think the story went something like this...
Francis said that while he was at HNIC it was standard procedure that when Cherry said something it essentially became the broadcast policy, and was not to be challenged or contradicted in later show segments. Francis took issue once with one of Cherry's idiotic rants in which he minimized the danger of concussions and fighting in hockey, and afterwards Cherry tore strips off of him, and said to him something to the effect of "you will learn who is in charge around here."
Later in the broadcast Cherry came back on the air, ripped Francis for his comments, and repeated Francis's name thirteen times in the clip. Francis did go on to say that in his time at HNIC Cherry was exceptionally generous and kind.
That was my recollection of the story, but I may have gotten some of the bits wrong.
