It was known all year this was going to be a double dip la Nina year and this is traditionally what happens. Higher than usual storm rates.
Having said that, this atmospheric river is a new thing I haven't seen the likes of around here. It doesn't stop. Doesn't let up.

On the island, I'm guessing anything north of Langford is a no go.

Shawnigan Lake is cut off. Sooke is completely cut off. Trans Canada was closed at Mackenzie interchange late last night, I expect it's still not in good shape. We're slated for 90km/h winds soon now, and with the ground soggy it's probably going to down a lot of trees.
