I'm going to blatantly say that this was one of the top episodes of this entire season. Directed by Elizabeth Henstridge, the pacing and story were well paced and well shot.
Spoiler!
The story line of time displacement leading to destruction has been done lots in other shows, but this one had a real logic to it, especially when Coulson told Daisy to look at the numbers and the finite amount of jumps.
This episode had some great humor in it, the repeated scenes of dealing with Enoch and the programming created by Simmons made me laugh, especially with the casual "Is Deke dead?" at the end of one of the fights.
But just as quickly as they had some great humor supported by great facial expressions and quips, they pull the rug out from under you emotionally as Enoch must sacrifice himself to save the team. Instead of focusing on the frantic preps for the jump to safety, they chose to simply leave Enoch in a room with Daisy and Coulson as they sat with their friend and had a really neat discussion around loneliness and dying, and I have to admit I was sniffling.
Enoch had become one of my favorite side characters in Agents of Shield. When they talked about Coulson as the Heart of the Avengers and Shield, Enouch had great heart, and patience and a certain innocence and nativity that was enduring. But sadly even as he died he told Daisy that this was the last mission for this team, which is an ominous warning for the future.
Even the ending sequence with Malik was a chilling portent as we are seeing the past and the present come together.
Great great episode.
