It's why I left hockey at 15 to snowboard, over 20 years ago. I resented hockey for a bunch of years after, and I remain jaded.
Returning to hockey as an adult with my friends 10 years ago, brought the love back.
You know why?
I started having fun again.

Yup, I soured on "elite" minor hockey after one year and went back to community. Was a lot more fun and got to do a bunch of other stuff like snowboarding and snowmobiling.
