Calgarian over here, living in San Francisco.

BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) and Caltrain is totally convenient from Union Square.

With that being said, your travel time will be 2 hours ONE way due to weekend train schedules, there's no Caltrain bullet service (minimal stops) on the weekend. If you're okay with the travel time, take the train.

From Union Square: walk to Powell Station Bart and catch a train bound for Millbrae.

Exit BART at the Millbrae stop.

The Millbrae BART stop services both Caltrain and BART.

Exit the BART platform and locate/enter the Caltrain platform.

Catch any Caltrain heading south.

Ride Caltrain to the San Jose Diridon Station stop.

Get off at Diridon and it's a 10 minute walk to SAP Center.

The Raiders are also playing on that same Sunday, you might end up with riding with a few of their fans, depending on when their game ends in Oakland.

EDIT: There is an alternate route through Fremont/Warm Springs but I don't recommend it because it rolls through Oakland and the Raider fans will make it a lot harder to get through public transit.
