A number of years ago, I went to Flames/Sharks for HNIC then the Rams/49ers game at Candlestick Sunday. I was staying in the Fisherman's Wharf area, and the train to SJ and back was by far the easiest. A friend who lives in the area came with us and strongly advised the train. But if some stations are closed it is more problematic now.
