Just finished binging the first 2 seasons, and it's a really mixed bag for me. Barry, Hank, Fuches, and Cousineau are all awesome, but Sally and everyone else in the acting class just bring nothing to the table IMO. I really like the acting classes. The fact the characters are flat and dimwitted adds to the juxtaposition between Barry's two lives. Sally, especially, is supposed to come across as totally self-absorbed and clueless. The fact that Barry is in love with her and can't see that is a big part of the show. He's doing all these awful things to stay in the theater group (and maintain his relationship with Sally), but he can't see that Sally is awful.
