There's a significant resolution difference between actual film and 1080p. Actual film crushes 1080p. Film doesn't have HDR or color grading, which new movies shot in 4K likely have. This may be what you're liking more.
For my tastes, 1080p for most movies is honestly fine. For the rare movies though, I want better.
