Hathaway is trending upwards, while most of the 2013,14 and 15 draft picks are trending downwards.
A fourth line NHLer is better than a future KHL all star.

I would argue that his ceiling is lower because he is 25 turning 26 and hasn't carved out a spot in the NHL yet. I have nothing against him, and I think that he is valuable to the team, still I don't expect more than what I've seen.
