I would definitely do at least the 2 day pass. That way you can do one park each day. If cost is a concern, you could get the regular option (no park hopper) and save some that way. Disneyland is way more fun if you aren't in a big stressed out rush.
I agree with the comment above on meals. The actual sit down meals at Disneyland aren't that bad. Quarter chicken dinner for ~$15 USD type stuff at Flo's V-8 Cafe in Carsland was our go-to. It's the "treats" that are expensive, more like $5 for a pretzel, etc.
