No where in his Tweets or follow-ups or even in that article you linked does it talk about Disney being unhappy with the reactions to the ending, or any response to the endings at all.

I am can't find the original link to what I read and I said I am not sure how reliable it is. Sorry. Will retract that statement.
Even so, screen testing 8 endings seems like a very big net to cast.
