What happens if you format the card to FAT32 and try copying files again?
I think I recall something like this happening with lower quality cards or corrupted sectors on the cards. I think there's been a huge wave of fake SD/MicroSD cards with funky formatting and questionable durability lately. Especially in 32GB and below.
A questionable SD card adapter should just show up as a flickering SD card (connect/disconnect), I don't seem to recall situations where it threw out an error code unless you were trying to read corrupted sectors.
