i thought NHL'rs received a various generous pension of something like $400,000 annually once they hit 400 games played plus the $15 million - wonder where all that went or if he sleeps in a tent because of mental health issues.

There's two ends of the spectrum of homelessness: people who've had a bad run and need some support to get themselves together, and people with mental disorders that prevent them from being able to re-integrate. The process of getting a homeless person off the streets can take years just to overcome their distrust of the institutions set up to help them.
