I think people that do that should be charged with cruelty to animals.

If there is a god, it would be he/she was on the side of the snake there. The snake showed a lot of restraint actually. I read that producing venom takes a lot of resources and energy, therefore they tend to save it for hunting and only self-defense when really needed.
