It's really tough to say how much that slip and fall at the US Open impacted Genie. She was playing some pretty good tennis at Flushing Meadow before being forced to withdraw and just hasn't recovered (at least from a tennis standpoint) since then. Speaking for myself, I'll admit I'm still a bit bitter after the comments Genie made at the Rogers Cup and the ladies who fought hard for Canada at the Fed Cup deserve to be there. I believe it's an honour to represent your country.
At the end of the day, no one should be bullied. Period. Social media, with all of its good points, can really impact a person negativity. It can be this black hole of keyboard warriors saying things they would never say to another person's face.
Here's to hoping she can surround herself with good people and continue her journey, whatever it may be.
