I'm a third year apprentice from days gone by, but circuits are still circuits. Kind of an odd one, you are sure that the fan and the lights mentioned are on the same breaker? I'm guessing that the leads to the fan motor are stranded wire, the wires that the fan wires were connected to in the octagon box...are they solid or stranded?
