I would first see if it's the GPU or CPU that is overheating by running software in behind that can show each.

If it's the CPU look at the Power Options -> Processor Power Management -> Maximum Processor State. By default it's set to 100%, try changing it to 95% to see if the problem goes away. Sure you are going to lose a small amount of performance but if the ventilation in the laptop isn't designed that well it might just solve your problem.
