i7's aren't worth the extra 100$ unless you are doing heavy CPU load stuff like huge renders and whatnot. Even then, the i5s do a great job for the common user anyway.
Look at some of the i3 and i5 motherboard bundles
here (click "Bundles" and brand "Intel") and work out what fits your price point best.
Though, if you're willing to spend over 300$ that i7-2600k combo is a great price, just keep in mind all "k" processors are unlocked and meant to be overclocked.
