The Flames originally did a great job with Kylington’s development. Brought him over young and played him lots in the AHL. I think he was going to get a full year in the AHL to really be the go to guy and play the power play and put up points but then injuries hit in Calgary and he was yanked up and down that season.

Since then, it’s been a series of weird decisions. When he first came up, he was quite dynamic, Friedman even talked about what a steal the Flames had on HNIC. But then they started “reigning” him in, and asking him to do things that are not Part of his skill set. They even sent him down to Stockton to work on his penalty killing because they wanted to use him like that, WTF?!? You have a guy with offensive skills, a geeat shot and skater who fits the mood of a power play specialist perfectly and you want to turn him into a penalty killer? Funny enough, they sent him down to work on his PK, and he scored a hat trick in his second game and they called him back up to sit in the press box again; how dare he try to use his skills he was born with!

It’s true, he’s not great defensively, but neither is Brent Burns or Erik Karlsson or Kevin’s shattenkirk or Erik Gustaffsson who they spend a 3rd round pick for to help the power play. Sometime you just have to live with a players deficiencies and manage them but play him to his strengths which in this case is to use him on the power play!
