I followed this guide which helped a lot since it gave a few options for each matchup.

Also, like malcolmk14, start with a different pokemon and switch right away to whoever you're using against Scyther since it stops the AI from attacking for a little bit. Once you deplete his shields quickly it's a lot easier.
