Icon40 Penguins season preview

The Pittsburgh Penguins retooled during the offseason to prepare for a new generation of talent coming up the pipelines. The roster traded notable vets such as Joe Pavelski and Kris Letang, and Max Pacioretty. They let starting goalie Pekka Rinne walk and free agency and let Milan Lucic follow him.

The transition was to make way for six rookies who will play key roles. The Conner Mcdavid era has officially begun in Pittsburgh. Following him to the big leagues are forwards Nik Ehlers, Nick Schmaltz and Arturri Lehkonen, defenseman Ivan Provorov, and starting goalie Matt Murray.

The Pens also brought in some key vets to help solidify the roster. The key addition was up front as Jonathan Toews will help Mcdavids transition to the CPHL. On defense the Pens made trades for Karl Alzner and Justin Faulk. The Pens added more depth down the middle inking Henrik Sedin to a 3 year deal at a very low cap hit.

The key to the Pens success will be finding chemistry between the youth and vets and hoping that Matt Murray can handle the starter’s role.

Pens lines:
Byron-Toews-Tarasenko
Ehlers-Mcdavid-Kane
Galchenyuk-Sedin-Gallagher
Grigorenko-Shaw-Lehkonen

Provorov-Subban
Faulk-Alzner
