I'm not going to defend Bowmans every move in last 5 years, but a good portion of them have been the result of having to field a 23 man roster when two players take 30 percent of your cap.
I don't begrudge Toews for taking that deal, but listening to him complain about a situation they had a sizeable part in creating makes my eyes roll.
How is the Bowman-Toews consultation on team moves supposed to go?
Bowman: We have 7 million in capspace. We need to sign 2 defenceman, 3 forwards and a starting goalie.
Toews: I want to win and be competitive. Lets sign Crawford.
Bowman: We can't afford Crawford because we have $21 million tied up in two players.
Toews: I can't believe you'd do this to me. You're the worst.

But that's kind of the point. Toews is claiming this type of conversation never happened.
You're absolutely right it would be pretty easy to have the conversation, but I get his frustration if Bowman didn't event comment let alone hint about it
